For 2019 the TenFoot Committee has added an extra discipline to the TenFoot Challenge weekend, the TenFoot Swim/Run.

Our  “Zero to Hero’s” are four well-known local pairs, that have come together to enter and have agreed to feature over the coming months, as they train from “Zero to Hero’s” all in the name of Charity. They will push themselves both physically and mentally in an effort to complete the challenging 5.5 mile course, staying together throughout the Swim and run disciplines and crossing the finish line together at the same time.

Continuing on from last week where we introduced the 2nd Pair this week it’s the turn of Bradley and Jo Davies.

Bradley said, “Chris has asked me to write a short piece as to why I have chosen to take part, which I thought was a bit rich as he told me I was doing it when we met for the Tenfoot Swim Planning Meeting, and like his brother Steve wasn’t asked either so I can see a pattern emerging here.”

“Joking aside, getting involved and competing in one of the Multi Endurance Sporting Events that take place in Pembrokeshire is something that I have been talking about for years, as I am sure a lot of other people can relate to. We have all watched, and until now, I ashamedly have still, just been watching from the side-lines, shore, roadside or Pub Beer Garden. However, now that I am involved with the organisation of all events that happen here at Saundersfoot Harbour, I feel that I should experience at least one of them as a participant.”

He added, “Living in this amazing county of Pembrokeshire which seems to have turned into a mecca for Multi Endurance Sporting Events, I feel this is something that I should give it a go. My wife Jo and I, have both ‘rolled down the hills to Tenby from Cardiff in the Carten’ but we have not done anything like this together since we were in the Tenby Dolphins when I was 9 or 10 and she was 7! So, let’s see what happens. Its close to the shore at least! I also wanted to take this opportunity to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis in memory of my mum Elizabeth (Betty) Davies who passed away 9 years ago.”

Jo remarked, ”Brad came home one night and said, I have a great surprise for you.  I was thinking wow, he has booked me a lovely weekend away somewhere, but he announced that he had signed me up to the Tenfoot run/swim!!  After my initial thoughts of wanting to kill him and then protesting for a few hours, I then came around to the idea and am now looking forward to the challenge. However, working full time and being a mum to a busy 3-year-old, fitting in the training will be a challenge too.” Jo continued, “I have decided to do this event in memory of my wonderful sister Sian Pugh and will be raising money for cancer research so not only will this be a worthwhile cause, I will also be getting fit too.

As you would have seen last week when we introduced the first Pair, this year the TenFoot Charity endurance event has added an extra discipline to its weekend challenge with the Tenfoot Swim/Run.

Four well-known local pairs have come together to enter the event and these eight individuals have agreed to feature over the coming months, as they train from “Zero to Hero’s” all in the name of Charity. They will push themselves both physically and mentally in an effort to complete the challenging 5.5 mile course, staying together throughout the Swim and run disciplines and crossing the finish line together at the same time.

This weeks were introducing two local dads Stephen Williams and Danny Henson trying to ditch the dad bods and get active, they usually spend their weekends watching their sons playing Rugby for Tenby but have been gently coaxed into taking on a challenge of their own in the inaugural TenFoot Swim/Run.

Stephen Williams

“I’ve been asked the reasons why I’ve agreed to take part in the Tenfoot’s first Swim / Run event – the simple answer is I don’t think I was ever asked. If you know my brother Chris Williams (TenFoot Chairman), you’ll know he has a great way of getting you to do something you don’t really want to do, whilst at the same time getting you to believe that he’s doing you a massive favour!”. Having said that, since ‘agreeing’ to do the Swim/Run it’s certainly given me an element of focus to my fitness regime. Not that I’m a swimmer. I’ll turn my hands to most sports but swimming is a new one on me and, if I’m honest, one I’ve been avoiding. Danny and I have spent many an hour watching our children play sport vowing to do something ourselves and this is it, a real challenge. Can’t see us setting the British record though! What is also appealing is that the event incorporates the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline with the stunning backdrops of Tenby and Saundersfoot.

Danny Henson

“Similarly to Steve, I to have no recollection of ever actually choosing to sign up for the event, despite its obvious appeal , however following numerous texts,  what’s ap messages and phone calls I did eventually agree, I think?. That being said, I’m a big supporter of local events and charities and have been threatening to do something for a long time and the Swim/Run was just the challenge I needed. I broke myself in gently by completing the Footstep run with a large number of my Team from Broughton Leisure and Holiday owners in 2018 , so I guess this was the natural progression. Swimming is certainly not a strong point of mine, but as always I welcome the challenge and look forward to getting myself in shape along the way whilst knowing that all the money raised will be going to worthwhile causes.”

TenFoot Swim / Run Event 2019 – ‘Zero 2 Heroes’ Pairs.

Four well known pairs have come together to enter the first TenFoot Swim / Run Event of 2019.

These eight individuals have agreed to feature over the coming months, as they train from ‘Zero 2 Heroes.’

They will push themselves both physically & mentally in an effort of completing the challenging 5.5 Mile Course.

They will have to stay together throughout the swim & run disciplines crossing the finish line at the same time.

The TenFoot Committee Members are appreciative of these individuals, for taking time out of their very busy lives, to support the event & worthwhile nominated charities.

Pair 1 :

Chris & Karina Ebsworth of Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo in Wales – 10th Best Zoo In The World.

Chris & Karina told Committee Members :

“We have been sea swimming and trail running together for a couple of years but have never put the two together.  When the news came of a Swim Run event to be held in Pembrokeshire, we both said at the same time “yep this is definitely one for us” so without any further discussion we signed up for the inaugural TenFoot swim run!  There are four main factors that make the TenFoot swim run a must, the first that it is staged in the stunning location of our home county, second that it is a team event (and we love taking part in sport together), the proceeds of the Swimrun go to support local charities and lastly that the training needed to complete the course fits perfectly with our family life and work commitments.  We are really looking forward to the event and have already started to get some training in.  All we need now is for the sea to warm up a bit!”
